《 This is one of the rare situations that puts a genuine expression clearly on Giovanni's face. He doesn't say anything at first, he just lets Davide cry into the phone for a few moments while he gathers his thoughts.

Mostly, admittedly, his thoughts are 'what the hell is going on' and 'how the hell is this place able to pull this off?', but those aren't put to words.

When he does speak though, he does it gently, effortlessly (unconsciously) switching from 'boss' to 'parent'.》

Take a couple of deep breaths for me, okay?

[Davide always does as instructed, but it’s hard. He takes in a deep breath and holds it, then let’s it out. It’s still shaking just horribly. His voice is very quiet again when he speaks.]

He doesn’t know yet, thank God, he’s…h-he’s alive.

I think he came just before—— j-just before. I-in the car. [He can’t bring himself to finish, biting on his lip while another squeak of a sob tries to break through.]

Then that's something to be thankful for. 《 He says this softly, almost as if he's thinking aloud. Of course he doesn't know Dante, but what he knows of him, he was - is? is - a sweet kid.
